The world’s most famous temple cuisine master, Jeongkwan, has published his first essay. It contains 58 recipes for each season, carefully organized with beautiful photos, and the wisdom contained in each bowl of food. Since becoming a monk at the age of seventeen, Jeongkwan has devoted himself to making and promoting temple cuisine that purifies the body and mind for over 50 years. Appearing on Netflix’s hit series Chef’s Table has become an opportunity to introduce Jeongkwan and his cuisine to the world, beyond Korea. The New York Times introduced Jeongkwan as a “philosopher chef” and praised him, saying, “If you want to taste the world’s rarest food, you should go to Cheonjinam where the monk lives.” Now, hundreds of visitors and Michelin-starred chefs from all over the world visit Cheonjinam every year to taste and learn from the monk’s cuisine.
