When rice is allowed to be steam cooked for a prolonged period of time in a pot, cooked rice becomes scorched on the inner surface of the pot. This scorched rice is called ‘Nurungji’. Due to its savory taste, it can be eaten as a snack on its own or by making soupy rice by boiling the scorched rice in water, Nurungji or Sungnyung.
