In Chapter 3, these two stories meet and the truth about the world’s destruction is revealed. In a pre-publication interview, Kim said she conceived of the novel “when the fear of COVID-19 was very intense. The author thought, “It can’t be this bad,” and dreamed of a lush forest where “people who silently hold their ground in the midst of despair, people who work for the recovery of others and the world, and people who never lose hope.
